Over the past two days, the student music competition came to a close. Thank you to the schools, parents, and students for your support, and to the judges for their recognition. Results are only a snapshot of progress; the journey in music is long, and what matters is continuing to learn, play, and enjoy.

The Hong Ming High School Quartet plateaued after prelims, likely due to balancing studies and music. At 18, they are already shaping their own paths, I can only guide from the side. The junior high “monkey” quartet grew significantly after some tough training, while the large ensemble’s addition of the sheng added richness and new colour. Thanks to co-instructor Ms. Zhen Qin

Erlun Junior High’s large ensemble has grown steadily, preparing pieces well ahead of time. Their expression now feels natural and fluent. The girls’ quartet, with me since elementary school, share not just music but friendship and laughter. Thanks to co-instructor Q Chen Image

At Erlun Elementary, my goal has always been for kids to play freely and love the harmonica. Watching them practice on their own, and joining them for baseball after class, reminds me of the joy of those early years. Many continue on with the team, keeping that spirit alive.

The Huwei High quartet, all Erlun alumni, juggle heavy academics yet still practice by themselves. Hearing them perform together for the first time just an hour before the competition was a reminder of the energy and resilience of youth.
These days, I value less the results and more the lessons of responsibility, doing your best at the right time, and moving forward without regret.
We will continue striving to do our best in both education and music.
