Day 2 in Singapore I had the pleasure of giving a talk on sound systems and harmonica ensemble playing at the Singapore Harmonica Enthusiasts Society, located in Chinatown.This place holds so many memories for me—my very first overseas performance was here in Singapore, and now it’s been nearly 15 years since then.
A few local harmonica ensembles took the stage and played their own group arrangements. After that, I shared some thoughts on ensemble work, and we had a hands-on session where I tweaked the their sound system. We played around with the mixer to hear how different settings change the sound, and I also walked everyone through typical soundcheck routines and how different stage setups can affect performance.
Huge thanks to Albert and Chin Wah for looking after us so well—driving us around and introducing us to all the good food! Also loved hanging out with Aiden, who had just gotten off a cruise from Malaysia and jumped straight into BBQ, beers, and some hilarious conversations with our “godfather-finding".
And of course, I had to end this post with a photo of the best durian chendol I’ve ever had. 100% going back for this next time.
