At the winter after the New Year, we decided to take a short trip to Seoul. But the cold was something else, temperatures felt like –15 to –20°C. Definitely a whole new experience!

Since 2014, Sirius Harmonica Ensemble has been invited every year to the Seoul International Harmonica Festival (SIHF), hosted by theKorea Harmonica Education Association (KHEA). But for this trip, we kept our plans quiet. It just so happened that during our stay, the KHEA president’s sister, Julia, heard we were in Seoul and invited me to give a lecture at the association, sharing about chromatic harmonica techniques, as well as repair and modification.

In the first half, I focused on common chromatic harmonica techniques, demonstrating different playing methods and letting everyone hear the subtle differences through the sound system.

Later, we moved on to common harmonica hardware issues, and how to repair or upgrade them. I also explored ways to push the limits of some widely used models on the market. The president even brought out a rarely used tool kit for everyone to see.

This was my first time visiting the KHEA clubhouse. The space isn’t big, but the photos on the wall carry so many memories of past events—tracing the growth and experiences the association has nurtured here since 2014.
